One of the most pervasive challenges that nearly every nation in the world is being forced to reckon with today is the rapid encroachment of non-biodegradable waste. Our planet is overpopulated and drowning in garbage, and there has never been a more urgent moment to seek out sustainable, scalable and also profitable solutions to this crisis than now. And the greatest untapped well for this type of innovation is the most popular form of trash of all: plastic.
First time in Armenia, our hackathon will bring together leading local and international experts as coaches, keynote speakers, jury members, with young aspiring and ambitious teams challenging the physical and digital boundaries of circular design.
From Grind to Product
Product designers, brand developers, entrepreneurs, engineers, marketing & sales, ideate sustainable physical products, made of upcycled plastic grind.
As designers and social entrepreneurs, we see plastic waste prevention as both an opportunity to foster awareness and build community as well as grow our country’s economy. During hackathon, we will think even more creatively about how discarded plastic can be transformed into commercially viable products, utilizing environmentally friendly recycling and manufacturing methods.
Solution, Not Pollution
Innovators, developers, designers, behavior scientists and environmental experts create digital solutions for businesses and society.
With an intention to think beyond environmental awareness-raising, we aim to develop real business solutions and campaigns reducing demand for single-use plastic. These campaigns should be brought to the market quickly and within current market conditions. Other solutions can include innovative approaches for environmental education in schools, using data science, etc.
Attend keynote sessions: learn about the impact of plastic pollution and challenges in Armenia, as well as the principles of circular and sustainable design.
Form a team: network and collaborate with local impact community and get feedback from local and international mentors.
Ideate (brainstorm): learn and practice human-centered design exercises and the process of ideation and collaborating.
Prototype: communicate solution through a working prototype, or develop detailed product sketches / blueprints.
Receive mentorship: meet with design thinking experts who will facilitate exercises and be available for one of one advice.
Test + Iterate: go out into the world and test your prototype's assumptions with real customers and then iterate the idea!
Enter to win $5,000: Pitch product ideas to the Jury with a chance to win US$5,000 for project implementation.
Proper Plastic is Armenia's first sustainable design lab that innovatively addresses plastic pollution and waste management by converting waste plastic materials into commercially viable products and increasing environmental awareness through series of educational activities, engaging 200 students and connecting around 2,000 followers with us on social media in 2018.
