Plastic Upcycling: Innovatively addressing plastic pollution and waste management

One of the most pervasive challenges that nearly every nation in the world is being forced to reckon with today is the rapid encroachment of non-biodegradable waste. There has never been a more urgent moment to seek out sustainable, scalable and even profitable solutions to this crisis than now. Our research has shown that the greatest untapped well in Armenia for this type of innovation is the most popular form of trash of all: plastic.

Our first prototype: Smart eco-table made of upcycled soft drink caps

Social Entrepreneurship: Transforming discarded plastic into commercially viable products

As designers and social entrepreneurs, we see plastic waste prevention as both an opportunity to foster awareness and build community as well as grow our country’s economy. Following the simply outlined process designed by Precious Plastic’s core team, we aim to challenge our country to think even more creatively about how discarded plastic can be transformed into commercially viable products, utilizing environmentally friendly recycling and manufacturing methods.

Environmental Education: Incentivizing a
community-based approach

Consumers in Armenia need to be aware of the intrinsic benefits of avoiding creating waste, and make incentivized choices. We plan to combine our project with a series of educational events throughout the country, such as recycling workshops, public exhibits as well as educational movie nights and presentations about how developed nations are striving toward increasingly circular economies and zero-waste lifestyles.
